2011 Films At BJIFF

This year, BIMF provided five films in total to the Beijing International Film Festival: Children of Invention (USA), Kooky (Czech Republic), Ondine (Ireland), The Paper Prince (Serbia) and White Wedding (South Africa). All five films were well-received, and enjoyed successful screenings at BJIFF.

玩具熊回家路 Kooky

When asthmatic, six-year-old ONDRA is forced to throw away his scruffy, sawdust-stuffed old teddy bear, KOOKY, he prays for the safe return of his furry friend. Soon afterwards, across town, Kooky is about to be crushed in a rubbish dump when he suddenly comes to life, making his escape into a mysterious forest. The naïve, cuddly Kooky needs help to survive amongst the rough-and-ready creatures of the forest and he finds it when he meets the crotchety forest guardian HERGOT. Hergot is in charge of watching over the forest, but he has his enemies too – the malevolent NIGHTSHADE plans to take over the forest, by proving that the short-sighted but good-hearted Hergot is not up to the job of guardian.

自力更生 Children of Invention

两个住在公寓外波士顿模型非法幼童留给自己谋生时，他们的勤劳的母亲消失。。。

When their mother (Cindy Cheung) disappears, Raymond (Michael Chen) and Tina (Crystal Chiu) find themselves left alone in their apartment with no clue as to the whereabouts of their mother or the reasons behind her disappearance. Raymond finds himself faced with the problem of not only taking care of himself, but also his significantly younger sister. Left with no other options, the resourceful youth conconcts a scheme to make sure the two of them do not end up homeless. 

纸王子The Paper Prince

JULIJA (8) lives with her parents who love her dearly but pay little real attention to her. One day when she has been left alone at home, Julia opens the door to NIKOLA (28), a suspicious survey-taker. Nikola first tries to rob the apartment but is prevented by Julia and they begin to become friends. Eventually Julia gives Nikola a pair of her mother's earrings and a passport belonging to her father.

Six months later Julia discovers that her family is in danger because of the missing passport and realises that she is responsible for this. With the help of her school friend PEGI (8) and an eccentric old lady, EMA (70), Julia begins to try to find Nikola in order to recover her father's passport. Along the way she discovers a lot more about her parents, society on the shaky ground of transition and the involvement of her parents in unsavoury affairs from which Julia, in the end, manages to extricate them.

白色婚礼 White Wedding

This is a film about relationships and above all about people encountering one another with all their prejudices and being forced by circumstance to connect and thereby discovering all the things they have in common. Above all it's about Elvis and his struggle to reach Ayanda in time to marry her.

这部电影是关于傲慢的人遇见对方，被环境所迫，不得不彼此了解，发现彼此的共同点的故事。在本片中，主人公Elvis将会努力追求Ayanda，并娶她为妻。

水中仙 Ondine

Ondine is a lyrical modern fairy tale that tells the story of Syracuse (Colin Farrell), an Irish fisherman whose life is transformed when he catches a beautiful and mysterious woman (Alicja Bachleda) in his nets. She says her name is Ondine, which means "she came from the sea". His daughter Annie (Alison Barry) comes to believe that the woman is a selkie, a magical seal/woman creature, while Syracuse falls helplessly in love. In the Celtic myth, a selkie is able to become human by taking off her seal coat, and can return to seal form by putting it back on. However, like all fairy tales, enchantment and darkness go hand in hand. Annie hopes that Ondine has come to live on land for 7 years and that she can use her selkie wish to cure Annie's kidney failure. Whenever Ondine is onboard Syracuse's fishing boat, she sings a siren song, and his nets and lobster pots are full of fish and seafood in tremendous numbers hard to believe. However, being Irish, Syracuse (or "Circus" the nickname he is trying to outlive, one he has earned for his previous hard drinking ways) is mistrustful of good luck, with it comes bad. Is Ondine really a selkie, will she stay, can love be trusted? What is Ondine's real secret? And who is the menacing man lurking around town spying on her? Is he her selkie husband come to claim her back to the sea?

     一个通俗的爱尔兰童话故事，生生被导演改编成了一个烂俗的现代神话。科林.法瑞尔依然是一副半死不活的样儿，脸谱 化的颓废形象，让我想起了若干年前布拉德.皮特在《燃情岁月》里的装扮。怎奈那时候的皮特青春无敌，颓废过后，依然朝气蓬勃，现在的法瑞尔却只剩下颓废， 只能等一个有旺夫命的仙女来拯救他，最终却证明那仙女只不过是一个来自第三世界的毒女。毒女配颓废，倒也门当户对，是不是正好吻合了导演尼尔.乔丹的世界 观：边缘对边缘，底层对底层？
